Our Programs

After School and Summer Enrichment Scholarships

Performing Stars acts as a broker in connecting youth and their families to a variety of enrichment opportunities. We secure scholarships, program placements, and admission tickets, and then screen, match, place, and support youth to take full advantage of the following opportunities. Sample placement and scholarships have included Branson School’s students program, Stapleton School of the Performing Arts, Music Concerts, Marin Theater Company, Marin Shakespeare Company, Sports and Sailing Camps.

Civic Drama

This program brings together Marin City 3rd-6th graders to create and perform theater public presentations and plays focused on local history and national cultural history.

Girls Baton Twirling classes

Girls Baton Twirling classes taught in the Marin City community. The youth also are prepared to perform at local events and parades.

Enlighten Young Women Exploring Their Futures

an annual event which brings together professional women to meet young ladies augmented by a Boot Camp that focuses on a variety of activities which includes career planning, financial literacy workshops and social skills development.

Civic Education Drama & Leadership Program

Providing opportunities and teach youth about how to participate in their local government and community affairs, training to be active leaders in the community and to raise. For example, as reported, this past year we held a mock election to familiarize our young people with the voting process.

Social justice youth initiative

Our newest program, the SJYI works at the intersection of environmental, racial and social justice, bringing current Performing Stars’ older youth as well as alumni together for activities in several core areas:

Historical Legacy & Representation – We have launched a film series focusing on stories of African-Americans’ contributions and struggles in this country. We also have a follow-up trip planned to Allensworth, a historic African-American town in the Central Valley, for a Junteenth celebration and community clean-up day.

Civic Action – SJYI are or will be working on Census and Get-Out-the-Vote campaigns over the next year in advance of the 2020 election.

Community Development – SJYI young people will be serving as a neutral community organizer during the Marin City redevelopment process currently underway. SYJI youth will work to ensure that residents are educated about all aspects of the process, and will help facilitate dialogue among all the stakeholders. SJYI youth are conducting similar efforts around the current state-mandated school desegregation process.
